Join us in loving the Saviour
We thank Colin Gamble of Naas & Athy Presbyterian Churches for this page, which we publish with his permission.
You are invited to join us in loving and admiring the Lord Jesus and in trusting him as our Saviour.
The following list is incomplete, but please let me suggest reasons why we ought to love him.
Because he is God the Son.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
All things were created by him.
Colossians 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities -- all things were created through him and for him.
Through him we become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Because God the Father loves him.
Mark 1:11 And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.'
Because he humbled himself and came to earth as a man.
Philippians 2:5-7 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Because he sets us free from our sins.
Revelation 1:5b-6 To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood ... to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Because he loved us and gave up his life for his people.
Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us.
Because he loved even his enemies and prayed for those who hated him.
Luke 23:34 And Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.'
Because he triumphed over death.
1 Corinthians 15:3-8 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
Because he now lives and reigns in heaven.
Ephesians 1:20-22 [God] raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church.
Because he is gentle towards us.
Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Because he is compassionate.
Matthew 14:14 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Because he has authority and power over nature.
Mark 4:41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, 'Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?'
Because he has authority and power over demons and evil spirits.
Mark 1:23-26 And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 'What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are -- the Holy One of God.' But Jesus rebuked him, saying, 'Be silent, and come out of him!' And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him.
Because he has authority and power over illness.
Mark 1:34 And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
Because he has authority and power over death.
Luke 7:12-15 As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, 'Do not weep.' Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, 'Young man, I say to you, arise.' And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
Because he is sympathetic.
Matthew 14:12 And [John the Baptist's] disciples came and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus.
Because he is perfect and sinless.
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Because he came to earth to give us life.
John 10:10b I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Because he is preparing a place in heaven for his people.
John 14:1 Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
Because one day he will return to gather his people.
John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
Because he invites us to come to him for rest.
Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Because he wants to be part of our lives.
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Because he lives with those who trust him.
Ephesians 3:14-17 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.
